About Bulgarian Regional Costumes
Bulgarian folk costumes are more than clothing—they are living expressions of regional identity, social status, and cultural heritage. Each region developed its own distinctive style over centuries, influenced by geography, climate, available materials, and historical events.
We are launching our collection with Thrace, Shopluk, and Rhodope because they represent three distinct cultural zones: the fertile plains, the western highlands, and the mountain regions. Each offers unique insights into how Bulgarian culture adapted to different environments while maintaining its core identity. Our collection will continue to expand to include all seven Bulgarian folklore regions.
These costumes were traditionally worn for special occasions—weddings, festivals, religious celebrations, and community gatherings. Today, they are preserved in museums and worn by folk dance ensembles, but their significance extends far beyond performance. They represent the artistry, values, and identity of generations of Bulgarians.
